Introduction


CHALLENGE

A valued customer approached Weldlogic with the need to develop an automated 3-axis GTAW welding lathe with cold wire feed, designed specifically for making high-reliability fillet welds on cryogenic piping. The goal was to produce two precise welds in sequence with a single part load, increasing productivity while maintaining tight weld standards. The solution also had to address critical requirements such as custom tooling that would prevent any surface damage to the components, internal purge support to ensure cleanliness within the piping, and CNC-controlled repositioning between weld zones — all fully programmable and repeatable for production use.

SOLUTION

Weldlogic Engineering designed a complete system around the Weldlogic AWS-Advanced Welding System controller, which manages a 280-amp GTAW power supply, arc voltage control, cold wire feed integration, and three-axis servo motion. Our engineering team developed the necessary tooling, refined the weld process, and programmed the motion control to ensure that two welds could be performed automatically and consecutively with a single part load. The result is a highly efficient and reliable weld cell optimized for cryogenic pipe fabrication with precision, repeatability, and minimal handling.
