
Introduction
CHALLENGE
Design a laser seam welding system capable of efficiently welding a wide range of materials-including aluminum alloys, stainless steel, carbon steel, and galvanized steel—across thicknesses from 26 gauge to 3/16″.
The system needed to consistently produce leak-tight, high-strength seam welds across all materialswithout requiring highly specialized operators. The goal was a true “do-all” seam welder delivering high-quality, high-speed results with minimal operator dependency.
Additionally, the system required full weld program storage for instant recall, with repeatability better than +1%, and the ability to achieve welding speeds exceeding 100 inches per minute (IPM).
SOLUTION
Weldlogic Engineering selected the PLS Precision Longitudinal Seam Welder platform and engineered a system capable of handling a full range of diameters, lengths, thicknesses, and material types.
To support aluminum welding, the system includes an optional wire feeder for proper filler metal integration.
The system is powered by a 4kW fiber laser with wobble head, controlled by the AWS Advanced Welding System, delivering precise control, consistency. and ease of use.
Additional features include:
• Full weld program storage and recall for repeatable production
• Remote star/stop controls and auxiliary foot pedals for operator flexibility
• Fully enclosed laser safety cell with integrated fume extraction and HEPA filtration for a clean and safe working environment
